What To Look For When Hiring A Disc Jockey

Hiring the right entertainer is one of the most important decisions for the successful outcome of your event! So how do you find the right DJ?  Some people view DJ's as a commodity and choose the least expensive one they can find, unaware there are differences to look for.  Some entertainment services lure customers in with low prices only to provide inexperienced entertainment with poor people skills, an inferior music library and substandard equipment.

Questions to ask before choosing your Disc Jockey

• Do You Provide A Written Agreement?
  YES! We use formal contracts.
  It is very important to confirm your booking in writing.
  Terms should be clearly defined to avoid future problems.
• Are We Guaranteed The Disc Jockey Of Our Choice On The Day Of Our Event?
  YES!  
  A written contract which names your specific Disc Jockey should protect you from unscrupulous operators.
• Are You Insured?
  YES!  It would be ridiculous not to have insurance.
  Insurance is a part of any legitimate business.  Liability and casualty policies protect yourself, your guests and the Disc Jockey company you choose.  Additionally, some venues are now requiring entertainers to provide proof of liability insurance before they can work at the venue.
• Do You Belong To Any Professional Trade Associations?

  An involved business person shows a willingness to learn, network, share and develop ideas.  Belonging to a  professional trade association reflects a caring attitude.
• How Many Years Of Experience Do You Have?
  Myself, I have over 15 years experience.  I won't consider working with anyone that has less than five years experience.
  Experience brings awareness of common problems and situations.  Be sure that your DJ has experience with your type of event.  A professional Disc Jockey will become involved with the planning of your special day and will be prepared to handle all announcements and special events on the day of your event.
• Is Your Equipment of Professional Quality?
  Most definitely!  Use of anything else would compromise our professionalism.
  Using professional grade equipment helps insure reliable service and quality presentation.  There is a difference between home audio and professional road-worthy equipment. Professional audio equipment is built to go on the road day in and day out.  We use some of the best professional equipment available.
• Will You Have Backup Equipment?
  Most definitely!  You wouldn't leave on a trip with an empty tank of gas.  
  Even professional audio equipment can fail on occasion.  Don't let this put an early end to your event.  So it is important to know if your Disc Jockey is prepared with backup equipment and personnel available to them.  You event is treated as a once in a lifetime affair, a professional will be prepared with a back-up system.  Make sure there is backup equipment should an emergency occur.
• How Early Will Your Disc Jockey Be There To Set Up?
  At least 1-2 hours should be allowed for set up, sound check and fine tune the system for your event and location.  Normally, there is no additional charge for this.
• Will You Listen To My Music Suggestions?
  Most definitely!  This is your day, and you outline the music that you want.
  Requests should be welcomed.  Many DJ's have the opinion that they know what music is best for their audience and won't take requests.  A professional Disc Jockey will be able to “read the dance floor” he should listen to requests and play them whenever appropriate and possible and explain the reason for inappropriate selections and offer an alternative..
• Will You Dress Appropriately For My Event?
  Most Definitely!  Our entertainers always dress in tuxedo shirts, pants and our special vests unless otherwise noted.
  Proper attire reflects a positive image to your guests.  It is important that your entertainer dress formally or semi- formally, relative to your event. Themed and outdoor events usually require different attire.  There should be no extra charge for formal attire.
• Will You Play The Music At An Appropriate Level?
  Most Definitely!  The volume is always at your control whether you want a little louder, or softer.
  A professional DJ knows to keep the volume at a level appropriate, comfortable level for your guests, especially during dinner.
• Do You Do More Than Just Play Music at the Event?
  Yes!  We also coordinate with other party professionals to insure a smooth running evening.
  It is important to have a DJ who is capable of playing the music, handling all of the announcements and coordinating the event.  We also have packages which allow for more crowd interaction with the addition of an MC
• Will You Listen to My Concerns and Input?
  Most Definitely!  Our Event Planners outline every detail of your event and include everything that you want.
  A professional Disc Jockey is aware that they cannot possibly know every aspect of musical preferences and entertainment needs,  and will make themselves available prior to your event to discuss planning and music selections.  Your input and suggestions should be welcome, and Special Requests should never be a problem and your Disc Jockey should be willing to play them where they are appropriate.

  Yes! References are available upon request, only if the client has granted us permission to release their information.
  References are the most reliable way to verify talent and levels of customer service..
